I largely agree ; thanks! And the current agenda of the EC is mixing various types of objectives (competitiveness, Green deal, societal challenges as well as social cohesion) but it is always dangerous to try « to kill multiple birds with one stone ». Also a point which sounds strange to me is that EU policy makers don’t realize that MOI policy is an oxymoron: innovation is about freedom to experiment and liberty to enter new markets while a mission is about executing a plan. How to reconcile the indiscplined nature of innovation with the disciplined nature of a mission? It is absurd

Agreed. What do you think of Mazzucato’s idea that fed support for R&D should also come with some capacity for the public to earn profit from those innovations that end up doing well? She cites the public funding that went to thing like Tesla, iPhone, and Google. I’ve thought it a decent idea- providing the government can’t weight in on company decision making. Earning could go to disaster response, further R&D support, or other public support. But I don’t know the full debate on it assuming there is one.
